Who is COSMÉBIO
Created in 2002 by the collaboration of about ten cosmetic laboratories working on job specifications for ethical cosmetics, COSMÉBIO is today an association with more than 200 members and more than 4000 certified products.
Today the organic and natural market is rapidly expanding and many brands are using the organic appellation for marketing purposes, sometimes for products that contain natural ingredients in very small quantities and no organic ingredients at all.
Cosmébio's charter meant very strict guidelines were filed with the Ministry of Industry, which were published in the Official Gazette on 9 April 2003. These specifications define "environment-friendly and organic cosmetics" and guide consumers seeking authentic natural and organic products. The charter, specially drawn up for the field of cosmetics, goes far beyond the presence of products stemming from organic farming.

In order to provide objective clinical assurance to customers, in April 2003 Cosmébio, in collaboration with Ecocert, developed some stringent guidelines.
Cosmébio only guarantees natural cosmetics made from vegetal ingredients sourced from organic agriculture that follows stringent environmental practices.
Ingredients
• Minimum 95% of all plant material is sourced from organic agriculture
• A minimum of 10% organic ingredients in total
• Minimum 95% of the product is comprised of natural ingredients or is of a natural origin.
Manufacturing rules
• All products are created with ecologically sound production processes, including comprehensive
non-polluting procedures
• No products are ever tested on animals.
Labelling rules
For a complete transparency, cosmetics must be labelled with certain requirements such as:
• Indication of the 3 percentages of ingredients
• Approved products are stamped “ecological and organic cosmetic product” and feature the name of the
State-authorized certifying body – in this case Ecocert F32600
• The presence of organic ingredients in the composition is indicated by an asterisk.
The Cosmébio label demands only 95% of natural origin ingredients. This means that 5% of the product may contain authorized preservative or chemical substances. Gamarde exceeds this with a complete 100% natural
range of phyto-dermocosmetics.
Gamarde cosmetics are exempt from:
• Preservative, Paraben, Phenoxyethonal
• Colouring or chemical synthesis ingredients
• P.E.G. (poly-ethylene glycol)
• G.M.O. (genetically modified organisms)

ECOCERT
ECOCERT is a control and certification organisation accredited by COFRAC (French committee for accreditation) in accordance with standard ISO 65 (EN 45011), which requires independence, competence and impartiality, as well as by USDA for NOP certification and by NAPP for JAS certification.
ECOCERT currently carries out certification in 80 countries outside Europe.
